Can you believe it?

I set the bolts down on the cutting table of my local quilt shop. My eyes met the woman who cuts the fabric (a good friend of mine) and we both just laughed.

Can you believe I’m buying solids?

Yep, I did it.

Are these the seeds of a modern quilt movement in me?

There was a day a long time ago when solids weren’t cool. I don’t exactly know why, I started with solids. My first quilt was a log cabin quilt done entirely in white and pastel solids. (That one is folded up nicely in my cupboard, I’m keeping it good.)

Have you noticed all these “modern” quilts? I remember the first time I heard the term “Vintage Modern.” I said okay, how does that work? I now know what it means. In truth this very country girl really likes the look of the modern quilts. I’m thrilled because it is attracting so many younger women into the art of quilting.

It’s true, I don’t like all modern quilts, but I’ll let you in on a secret. Shhh, don’t tell anyone.

I don’t like every quilt I see.

There I said it. I can appreciate a quilt for the love and care that went into it, but I just like some more than others. I’m sure if you are honest, you will admit the same.

But, I have always loved quilts where the colors pop and they flow. I think that is what I like about the modern quilt movement. Also they seem to be less worried about points and everything lining up. (Always a plus if you are like me.)

So, stand by…..

You just may see a modern quilt here sometime in the future. At least it will be my interpretation of modern. I love to try new things!

So how do you feel about this modern quilt movement? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Leave me a comment below.
