Rag Quilt

Failure and Rag Quilts

My daughter called me the other day and said that she went to Quilty Stuff because she thought her RSS wasn’t working. When she got there she just found that she wasn’t getting any updates because I hadn’t posted anything in over a month!

Okay, I admit it. I’ve been working on other things. I have some great things planned so don’t give up on me yet.

I have a few announcements and I’ll be doing some classes in May.

Here is a peek at something I’ve been working on.

Rag Quilt

Rag Quilt

May 15th I’ll be doing a rag quilt demonstration.

I don’t know how these quilts got their name. They aren’t made of rags. I guess the edges get all ragged after you finish making them so that might be why they call them rag quilts.

Believe me this is a quilt you want to make. Especially if you live in the cold north like me. Even if you don’t these are so quick and easy and cuddly, it is hard to resist.

This is the best quilt for beginners. They are quick and forgiving of little mistakes.

E-mail me if you would like information about the demonstration or stay tuned right here I will be posting a tutorial so you can make one of these all of  your own.

Homework is calling so I need to go finish up a paper. I hope you are finding more time to quilt than I am.

Happy Quilting!

Crazy Quilt Classes

I will be teaching a series of Crazy Quilt Classes this February at Countryside Fabrics.

Crazy Block 4 (2)

I’ve taught this class several times throughout the years. It is my most popular class.

It is a great way to use up scraps and all the embellishments are so much fun to learn.

If there is enough interest another class will be scheduled so if Saturdays don’t work for you let me know and we can schedule a weekday or evening.

Class #1  February 2  10:00-12:00

This class covers all the basics of block construction.

Class #2 February 9  10:00-12:00

Embroidery 101. We will learn and practice some of the most common embroidery stitches to make those seams beautiful.

Class #3 February 16  10:00-12:00

Silk Ribbon Embroidery is beautiful. It works wonders for crazy quilts and is also a nice addition for little accents in signature blocks, labels, apparel, and so much more.

Crazy Block 2 (2)

Class #4 February 23 10:00-12:00

Beading! You will be amazed how much is added when you sew on a small bead. We will cover the proper techniques for sewing beads so they stay on your quilt and look at combinations that will make your crazy quilt a real piece of art.

Send me an email for a class bring list or if you have any questions.

Packages, How we love them….

Little Snowman

Snowman in progress

Two days = Two Packages!

One I was expecting, the other, a complete surprise.

The first was a package of wonderful woolfelts. I love working with wools.

I have two classes coming up next month involving wools. I need to make up kits for my students.

1. Wool is hard to come by here where I live.

2. It is kind of on the expensive side.

3. Find enough for 30 students. HA!

so I decided to take the plunge and try woolfelt. I have heard it was great, but I am a purist and like to stick with only the real stuff.

My package arrived yesterday. I’m thrilled with what was inside.

The best part is that Prairie Point Junction is having a sale right now through midnight October 30th. 20% off everything! Check it out for yourself at http://www.prairiepointjunction.com

I’m not affiliated with them or anything, I am just a really happy customer.

Here are a few of my wool projects

Now the second package was a complete surprise. I recently had an opportunity to subscribe to a quilting magazine through my local quild. Soon I got a letter thanking me and asking if I would like to get another year for just $12.00. I said yes right away. That is a steal! 6 issues for $12.00!

Anyway yesterday my little package was a thank you for renewing. It contained 3 fullsize spools of sulky rayon threads. These alone probably cost $12.00. What a deal.
